A user is a person who signs in to Superwise. The roles you give the user decide what the person can see and do. The projects you give the user decide which projects the person can open. Site staff who do not sign in are not users. Add them under [Staff (non-users)](staff-(non-user).md).

## Before you start

- Create the roles first. See [Roles](role.md). A user needs at least one role.
- Create the projects the user will work on. See [Projects](project.md). You can also give projects later.
- For a person from another company, such as a contractor, add the company first. See [Organizations](organization.md).
- Create departments if you want to use them. See [Departments](department.md).

## How to add a user

1. Open **Company settings** in the left menu, then **General**, then **Users**.
2. Click **Add User** (mark 1 in the first picture).
3. In **Name**, type the full name. The most is 30 characters.
4. In **Designation**, type the job title, for example Chief of Planning.
5. In **Email**, type the work e-mail address. The person uses it to sign in. Each address can be used once.
6. In **Phone No**, type the phone number.
7. In **Roles**, choose one or more roles.
8. In **Projects**, choose the projects the user can open.
9. In **Departments**, choose the departments of the user. This is optional.
10. Click **Save**. A message says that the user was created.

Superwise sends the new user an e-mail to set a password.

4. Type the same password again in **Confirm Password**.
5. Click **Save**. A message says that the password was updated.

The password must have at least 6 characters, one capital letter, one digit and one special character, for example `Acme@2026`.
